About

Our Story

Under the artistic direction of Valley Lipcer and in collaboration with a miscellany of talented artists, Roundabout Theatre has created a huge body of work over the past 15 years, enchanting tens of thousands of people at hundreds of festivals and events across the country.

Family shows, school shows, immersive theatre worlds, self-led theatre adventures, installations, intimate roaming performances, playful art making in public places, social change street theatre and kid led festivals and events.

All of our shows, creative place-making events and festivals are developed to inspire imagination, wonder, story and creativity and to cultivate deep connections between people, communities and the non-human world.

Manifesto

We create original works iteratively and curiously and reinvent ourselves all the time.

We are proud to be outlandish, different and bold attempters of impossible feats.

We are adaptable and collaborative.

We cherish our raw spontaneous imagination and playful spirit in both our creative process and productions.

We believe art should be accessible to everyone and include everyone.

We invite audiences to co-create the live experience with us through authentic and empowering interaction.

We want to create a legacy of joy, magic and possibility thinking in every space we perform.

We love the non-human world and we make sure we tread softly and gently in all of our interactions and processes.

✹Artistic Director→Valley Lipcer

Valley Lipcer is a theatre-maker, creative producer, director and performer with 25 years, experience presenting theatre in public spaces, both nationally and internationally.

For all of her projects she brings the same rigorous design process in world building, experience mapping and dramaturgy:exploring how theatre can inhabit, enliven and respond to public spaces; how audience agency can be meaningfully built into a show narrative; and how ‘worlds’ created can leave an imaginative legacy beyond the experience of the show.

Valley has created over 20 site-specific performances, children theatre works and interactive promenade theatre pieces. She has also worked with schools, government agencies and not for profit organisations to develop socially engaged and educational shows and produced and directed art events for children, arts festivals and community shows.

Independently of Roundabout Theatre Valley has worked as: a festival director for Falls Festival Arts Village, The Arty Party and as a creative producer for NORPA, National Circus Festival, Lismore City Council and Spaghetti Circus and as a freelance theatre director on various shows.
